Have you ever wondered exactly how long your hair will have to be to be considered as long hair? For some cultures, long hair is that that grows beyond the shoulders whereas for others it could be hair that grows beyond the bottom of the bottom of the back.

The same really applies for genders as women with chin length hair could be considered as having short hair but a male with the same hair length will often be said to have long hair. It is a minefield really when you think about it and there is no real definition to what long hair actually is.

For many years, long hair was considered to be that which falls beyond the middle of the back but recently, with the increase of fashionable short styles such as the graduated bob and the pixie cropped cuts, hair is considered to be long when it falls just short of the shoulders. I, for example, have hair that falls about an inch below my shoulders and my friends all consider this to be long but for me, this is just a medium length style as I used to have hair that fell to my waist.

The definition of long hair differs from person to person and culture to culture, although there are rough definitions on long hair over the internet where you may look for a style or cut for a certain length of hair.
